Raiffeisen Bank Ascona
Last spring, the exhibition Gianmaria Potenza La Materia Narrante opened in the new spaces of the Raiffeisen Bank Losone Pedemonte Vallemaggia in Ascona (Switzerland). This art show is part of a long collaboration with the Majid Foundation in Ascona, where Potenza’s works were exhibited from August to October 2022 in a large solo show. The Gianmaria Potenza La Materia Narrante project also involved Golf Gerre Losone and Golf Ascona, where the bronze Golf Clubs (2006) are still exhibited.
The works exhibited in the Raiffeisen Bank retrace the main themes, languages, and techniques treated by the artist from the 1990s to today and represent the rich experimentation, the Venetian historical and cultural roots, and the lively imagination of Potenza’s art. Everything appears to be a game and seeks beauty, reflecting his optimism and love for life.
One of the artist’s most recent creations – Freccia (2021) – can be found at the entrance to the bank with a slender rhomboidal shape, so light that it turns according to the wind or the human will to interact with it. Other bronzes on display take inspiration from nature, such as the Mezza Pera Inclinata, Sfera, and Mezzo Uovo. Others depict more abstract subjects like the Resinographies, a technique of experimentation with handmade paper, such as the artwork Sole Resinografia (2021). Finally, the two Policombustioni (42 and 44) are realized by assembling many polystyrene boards which are then pyrographed, coloured with acrylics, and embellished with gold leaf.
The project will end in September 2023, with the closing of both the exhibition at the Raiffeisen Bank and Golf Gerre Losone and Golf Ascona.
