ARTE SACRA ARTE SPIRITUALE
DIOCESAN MUSEUM OF CREMONA
FROM 29th OCTOBER TO 03rd DECEMBER
POSTPONED UNTIL 11 DECEMBER!
The exhibition “Sacred Art Spiritual Art” opens one-week before the inauguration of the new sacred furnishings for the Cathedral of Cremona, which were designed by Gianmaria Potenza on the occasion of the liturgical adaptation of the Cathedral. The exhibition offers an opportunity to investigate Potenza’s art with a special focus on the spiritual element of his works, which concerns not only purely religious subjects but also his artistic production as a whole.
The exhibition takes visitors on a chronological tour of the sacred art works created by the artist from the 1960s to the present day. Numerous exhibits from the Potenza Archive, including photographs, sketches and models, show the extraordinary wealth of materials, the variety of techniques used and the imaginative nature of the subjects represented. Furthermore, a number of bronze sculptures, polycombs, and handmade papers complete and enrich the visitor experience.
The leitmotif that ideally links the works on display in this exhibition is the search for a ‘spiritual’ dimension, which can be investigated in various elements of his art, including the creative process, the fantasy and playfulness of his works, as well as the historical and cultural heritage of Venice that his works are able to narrate and convey.
