TRATTI
CREMONA_ PROFILI D’ARTE
Photography Exhibition by Paolo Mazzini
June 7 – July 31 2024
Diocesan Museum of Cremona
The Potenza Tamini Foundation, in collaboration with the Diocesan Museum of Cremona and the Diocesan Riflessi Magazine, is thrilled to present the first solo exhibition dedicated to Cremonese photographer Paolo Mazzini, by Valeria Manunza Loddo. This exclusive event, running from June 7 to July 31, 2024, at the Diocesan Museum of Cremona, offers a unique opportunity to delve into Cremona’s art and culture.
“Tratti” (Traits) is an intricate examination of Cremona, depicted as a dynamic entity evolving across time and space. Mazzini’s unique approach to photography provides a penetrating insight into the complex relationships between place, history, and human identity, making this exhibition a must-see for art enthusiasts and individuals interested in cultural events.
Each image is a window into a world of subtle meanings and shifting narratives. Mazzini captures details with extraordinary precision, revealing the many facets of a city rich in history, culture, and life. Closed lines, intersections, fragmented edges, and harmonious curves are the traces that ideally connect Cremona’s cultural landmarks: the Cathedral, Torrazzo, Diocesan Museum, Violin Museum, Arvedi Auditorium, Civic Museum, and Archaeological Museum.
This exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the evocative atmosphere of Cremona, guided by the ‘sensory geometries’ created by the artist’s masterful use of light, colour, and composition.
“Tratti” invites visitors to explore the city’s physical spaces and temporal and symbolic dimensions. Each photograph becomes a starting point for broader reflection on the places, eras, and complex character of a city with multiple facets, intimate interpretations and communal architectures.
This exhibition, part of the Potenza Tamini Foundation’s event program, is a testament to our commitment to supporting emerging creative talents exploring contemporary themes akin to those also pursued by Gianmaria Potenza. This alignment underscores our dedication to fostering a vibrant artistic community.
The two artists met in 2022 when Mazzini documented Potenza’s latest sacred furnishings for Cremona Cathedral, showcasing an exceptional sensitivity in capturing the Venetian sculptor’s exploration of light. Consequently, the Foundation enlisted Mazzini as the official photographer for the images featured in the publication “Gianmaria Potenza Cattedrale di Cremona”.
“Tratti” emerges from the thematic thread initiated in that photographic series, encouraging broader contemplation of Cremona’s essence and multifaceted identity.
