Astromondo
“Venice To The World” public call (2015) for an architecture and design project for the renovation of the access roundabout that leads to the Marco Polo Venice airport, by realising an artistic structure that highlights the beauty and the values of the city. NOT REALISED.
The sculpture is a reworking of different archetypes from various cultures based on travel and the cosmos. Its name, Astromondo, derives from the joining of the structure of an astrolabe, an instrument used for measuring heavenly bodies, with a large sphere representing the world. A Venetian bridge that welcomes visitors and tourists from all over the world, but also the traveller’s bridge, overlooking the mysteries and curiosities aroused by the trip itself. The combination of red and green is designed to create a landmark, a tangible recognition. At the first roundabout an open astrolabe encourages the traveller on to the second roundabout, where the instrument closes to leave room for the wonders and mysteries of the world/cosmos, represented by the third roundabout. For those who have just landed the process happens in reverse, seeing the wonders of the world at the first roundabout and then gradually seeing it reopen to the wonder of new sights.
